I bought this for a specific use case. I was looking for a small and pocketable light that I could carry clipped to my pocket during the day and sometimes when I go out at night. I did not need it to be super bright or have a super long run time. I have other flashlights for the woods, or for being out at night for long periods of time, or for a work light, or a hat light.So far, it meets or exceeds my expectations. It is VERY well machined, being hard to tell where the flashlight head screws into the body when fully tightened. It is also weighty. The brass A29 adds substantial weight (2.95oz vs 1.76oz) over the Aluminum A23 (which I also own), and generally feels more substantial like a well made tool. It is small, sleek, understated, and it functions as promised. This light isn't marketed as the brightest, nor does it claim super long run times . Basically, it isn't trying to be something it is not. I can appreciate that.Operation:- Press and hold: Turbo mode- 2 clicks: Memory setting. Defaults to Low. Click again to cycle to Medium, High, and Turbo. Leaving the light on in a mode for 3 minutes will set the mode in the memory and it will turn on to that setting next time.- 3 clicks: SOS (default). Click again to get Strobe.- 4 clicks: Moonlight mode- Long hold (when on): Turns light offThese are my criteria. If you are looking for something similar, this might be the light for you:Needs/Wants:- Brass Construction- Nichia 219C High CRI LED, which throws a warmer light with more color fidelity.- DEEP carry clip.- The light also needs to carry in my left front pocket in a way that would not interfere with reaching into my pocket.- Low moonlight mode. This is my most used mode.- Programmable to turn on to low. Turning on to high ruins my night acclimated vision.- Rechargeable. This light charges in about an hour.Don't Need/Care:- High Lumens. Being able to burn a hole in a tree from 100ft is absolutely useless for a small pocket light.- I also don't care that the light uses a proprietary battery. If I need to switch batteries, I can use a different light.- Magnetic Tail cap. It's going to ride in my pocket with my metal keys, a small multitool, and a pen.- Reversible clip. I have other lights for that.Things it could do better:- I do wish that the light could tail stand better. It can, but is precarious.- Why is it three clicks for SOS and Strobe and 4 clicks for Moonlight mode?- Why isn't this USB-C rechargeable instead of Micro-USB?I waited a little bit and actually carried this for a couple weeks before i chimed in because i hate when people base their reviews on unboxing.This is a pretty neat flashlight if you're looking for a brass edc light to match a kit. Its dropped from pocket hight to ground a couple times with no issues. Doesn't get supper hot. My biggest gripe is battery life is a joke. Maybe 20 minutes run time and that is being very generous. So its pretty and its bright, but I couldn't recommend it as a work light or something you should count on. Thanks for reading.This overall is a ok light but if you are on the shelf about which version to buy... buy the 1000 lumen cree version vs the niche version. I ordered the wrong one by mistake and got the 650 lumen niche.This light compared to the ax1 with a cree at 650 there is no comparison. The ax1 upgraded at 650 lumens with a cree blows the a29 at 650 lumens out of the water. Yes the niche light gives better color definition but at a huge loss to the light throw and overall illumination. If you want a light to light up a dark road in the middle of the night go cree all the way. Like I said I meant to order the 1000 lumen cree version and got the 650 niche version instead . Besides this the light build is excellent. Dont get me wrong the light is very nice.The machine work on this is top notch.I've enjoyed the flashlight thus far. For knowledge, it has a coating on it so it doesn't patina quickly by no means. The light itself is bright and cycling through is very easy, it has a lot of capability, but I have not figured all of it out yet.I would recommend this product to friends and family.Great EDC brass light. Very bright. Built solid. I like showing it off and camping friends like checking it out. I would definitely recommend this light it your looking for a quality handheld torch.Very nice solid flashlight. I did quite a bit of research before buying this. Precision machined. I couldn’t even see where the seam was where it unscrews. Only minor complaint is it has a polish on it so it might not get that patina I like on brass objects.Great light and met all the requirements for a birthday gift. Has great features and quality. Highly recommend.
