Toy spaniels like the Cavalier King Charles come from European nobility. Very popular with King Charles I and II, but later began to become extinct. American Roswell Eldridge offered a cash prize to breeders who could produce “Bleinheim Spaniels of the Old-World type.” He wanted the spaniels from King Charles’ time with long face, no stop, flat skull.
